Welcoming a new baby into your family is a season unlike any other. As a newborn photographer serving Clarksville and Nashville, Tennessee, these are the moments I’m always drawn to.
Baby Macrae was clearly welcomed with so much love. From the very beginning of their session, it was clear that this season is one their family is fully soaking in. The soft stillness of those early newborn moments, paired with the gentle curiosity of a proud big sister, created the most beautiful balance throughout our time in the studio together.
Macrae’s session unfolded just as many newborn sessions do — gently and fully on his own terms. At just under two weeks old, he was in a season of needing constant closeness and pausing often to feed and settle. We took our time, allowing space for those breaks and following his lead throughout this session.
And then, with a little patience and a softly guided transition into a secure, swaddled pose, he finally drifted into sleep. As a newborn photographer, I have several tools always nearby that work wonderfully for soothing babies.
These are the moments where experience truly matters. Having a photographer who knows when to pause, when to adjust, and how to gently guide baby into a place of comfort without ever rushing the process is so important.
Once settled, Macrae rested peacefully, allowing us to create those timeless, softly posed portraits that highlight every delicate detail — from tiny fingers to the softness of his features.
And then, of course, there were the moments that can’t be posed. The way his big sister leaned in so gently, studying him with the sweetest curiosity. The way she held him, already so full of love. These are the moments that become part of your family’s story — the ones you’ll look back on and feel all over again.
We also spent time capturing quiet connection between Macrae and his parents. The way he fits so perfectly in their arms, the calm, steady presence they bring to him — it’s in these moments that you really begin to see a family settle into this new chapter.
This session was a beautiful blend of both — softly guided newborn portraits and natural, connection-filled moments that reflect what life feels like right now.
And that’s always the goal.
To create images that don’t just show what your baby looked like, but what it felt like to hold them in these first days.
Newborn sessions are best scheduled within the first 1–2 weeks after baby arrives, though every session is fully baby-led and designed to adapt to your baby’s needs.
